The Links tool displays a list of associated references as web links. This might be a related page on your website or a relevant website to provide more information for the user. It will look like this:

Settings

Basic

  • Add Link - add a link.
  • Add Group - create a group so links can be sorted and managed without relying on unsightly lists.
  • Edit - displayed when a link has been added. Allows for swapping a link or changing its title.
  • Delete - displayed when a link has been added. Removes the link from the list.

Display

  • Number of Items - determine the number of links displayed before a drop-down pop-up is displayed, allowing visitors to expand the list.

Advanced

  • Block Title - add a heading to display at the top of the tool.
  • Block Description - add a sub-heading or descriptive text to display beneath the heading.

Key actions

  • Under the Basic tab, select Add Link.
  • The Add Link window will appear.
  • Input your link and a descriptive title.
  • When you are finished, select the blue Add button.
  • Select Add Group.
  • Create a title and, if required, add a description.
  • Select the blue Add button.
  • You can drag links into a group using the three line (or 'hamburger') symbol to the left of a link under the Basic tab.
  • Use the blue up/down arrows on the right hand side of the link to move the link up or down by one spot.
  • Alternatively, click and hold the three lines (or hamburger) icon on the left hand side of the link and drag it to another position in the list.
  • Links can also be dragged from one group to another, or out of a group altogether.

Practice Tips

  • Use groups - grouping links can make lists clearer. For instance, you can designate different kinds of links or link from different stages of a project.
  • Don't display too many links at once - take advantage of the Number of Items feature under the Display tab to prevent your lists looking unwieldy or unsightly.
  • Use descriptive titles - make sure visitors know exactly what they're clicking. Don't use non-descriptive titles like 'click here' or 'project report'. It is an accessibility issue that affects people using screen-readers.
