The Text tool allows you to add simple text and gives your common word-processing tasks to manage and format your text. It can also be used to add hyperlinks to other pages in your site, external websites, and documents, as well as adding inline images.

Dragging in a basic content tool to the project canvas will allow you to start typing immediately, and a formatting bar will appear at the top of the text.

The block commands are:

undo/redo changes, add your HTML code, choose a tupe of formatting, undo/redo changes, bold text, italicise text, strikethrough text, bullet points, outdent/indent, add image, create a table, add a link, create tabular chart, insert space, insert special

Key actions

  1. Select the Image icon in the content toolbar of the block.
  2. After the selected image appears in the text box, the size of the image can be adjusted by selecting on the image and dragging the corner (see below).
  3. The image can be edited in the future, by clicking the 'Edit' button that appears in the centre of the image.
  1. Highlight the words you want to link
  2. Select the Link icon in the content toolbar.
  3. A dialogue window will appear that will allow you to either insert a URL to another website or select an internal page from your site from the Sitemap.
  4. You can also choose to link to a file by selecting the File icon which will open up the File Manager.
  5. You can then left click the desired file and select Choose.
  6. You will also find options for how you want the file to open eg: open link in the same window, open link in new tab, or open the link in lightbox (recommended for photos).

Practice tips

  • You can copy content from another document or even webpage using the keyboard shortcuts for copy (control/command + c) and paste (control/ command + v). However, please note that this currently may paste inline styles that will override the styles of your webpage. Use the command: control/command + shift + v to copy plain text and retain your page's styles.
  • The simplest way to add an image to your site is to use the Image tool. This will place the image before or after the comment. Inline imagery is recommended for advanced users, but if you use it try and make sure you balance the image and text and do not leave large gaps of white space.
  • When writing link text, always link meaningful/descriptive words - never words like 'click here' or 'read more'. This makes your site more accessible by making it easier for people who use screen readers and keeps your copy punchy and clean.
  • Use the formatting icon to format headings properly - don't just bold text to create headings.
